The IBCLC Exam Countdown is On: 30 Days to Success

If you’re taking the next IBCLC® exam, you have only about 30 days left to review. Miserable just thinking about it? I’ve been in your shoes! Here are some things I might do to prepare in the 30-day IBCLC exam countdown!

Carefully review the IBLCE Detailed Content Outline

Get a clear picture of what’s fair game, and review the IBLCE Detailed Content Outline. If you’re still thinking that the bulk of the exam will be about positioning and latch, you’ll be in for a real surprise. There’s way more.

Know your own set of strengths and weaknesses

Once you have familiarized yourself with the Detailed Content Outline, consider the discipline categories. It’s helpful to know what areas you struggle with. Pharmacology and Toxicology is often an area that test-takers mention they had difficulty with. There are also some tough terms in the Nutrition and Development section.

Free resources for “classic” questions

There are some questions that I just assume will be on the exam every year. To that end, I re-read:

I strongly recommend that you read and re-read all of the protocols from the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. I like to download, print, and three-punch them, then put them in a ring binder.

Become test-savyy in your 30-day IBCLC exam countdown

It’s possible to break your study time into 30-minute per day (or less!) sessions.

I know that’s easier said than done, but try not to let your test anxiety get the best of you. At this point of your IBCLC exam countdown, you have about a month remaining. So you’re somewhere between a planned 60-day study and a last-minute study. That means, there is still time, but don’t let time get away from you, and don’t waste time with useless study tactics.

There is also time to prepare with my Online Lactation Exam Review. I offer three packages, so find the one that best suits your needs and situation.

Want to pare it down a bit?  Use practice exams and drills. Being comfortable with the format of the exam can also help in guiding your preparation.

Success after failure

If you’re taking the exam after failing on a previous attempt, you’re not alone!

I have helped lots of aspiring IBCLCs just like you. In fact, I’ve even written a book about it! Determining why you failed on your last attempt will help identify what you need to focus on during the IBCLC exam countdown.

So, what are you doing for your IBCLC exam countdown! Share your thoughts in the comments belo

Oh, I’m so sorry! I missed you post! I’m not sure what you wanted to join; maybe the recertification webinar we offered a few evenings ago? If so, and if you’re a first-time candidate, that would not have helped you much. Have you taken the IBCLC exam before? We can offer some help if that’s your question. Please consider these resources. If you still need help, send email to info@mariebiancuzzo.com OR let me know here!
