So You Applied for the IBLCE Exam. Now What?

You’ve completed the requirements and you applied for the IBLCE Exam, but what do you do now? You have loads of time to get prepared and study, right? Um … no. Do not delude yourself into thinking that way. The IBLCE Exam may seem far away, but in reality, your preparation time is very limited. What should you be doing now that you submitted your application?

Where to start?

You applied for the IBLCE Exam, and now you’re wondering what to do from here. You may be feeling overwhelmed. The exam covers a lot of topics so it’s easy to feel like there is too much to learn. But, with some planning and good resources, you can tackle the topics, step by step.

You’ve spent a good deal of time completing your requirements; the same should be true of your preparation for the exam.

Plan your studies

Determine which areas of the exam might be weak areas for you. Was there an area you struggled with when completing your 90 hours, or when taking your health science courses?

Think about what topics are new or have recently evolved. Staying current on breastfeeding issues and management is important.

Break your study time down into manageable chunks and be diligent in studying rather than cramming. It’s possible to have exam success in just minutes per day!

Now that you’ve applied for the IBLCE Exam, consider the makeup of the exam to help you to focus on specific categories when creating your study plan.

Do not wait until the last minute

Procrastinating until the last minute lowers your odds of doing well. Stressing yourself out by cramming in your studies isn’t efficient and is unlikely to produce a good result.

You might be asking how much time do you really need to study? The answer varies for everyone, but it is not a simple answer.

Invest in yourself

You’ve already spent money to complete your requirements and now you’ve applied for the IBLCE Exam. Now is the time to invest in yourself by putting aside time to prepare, and getting quality resources to help you succeed on your first try.

Nothing compares to the experience of taking a live course! We always ask attendees why they came to a live course, and I’ve summarized the top 6 reasons for taking a live course. And, I might add, there are a few reasons that people don’t always name, but they do enjoy! For example, I give a lot of what I would call “hallway advice” at live courses. You can’t get that in an online course!

Yet, I do understand. Sometimes, attending a live course isn’t in the cards for you. We have an all online review course if you have already met your requirements, applied for the IBLCE Exam, and want to review before sitting for the exam.

Or, if you’re early on in your journey and are preparing to qualify and submit your application in May, you can meet me live for your 90-hour comprehensive course, or get our all online 90-hour comprehensive course.  Either program, combined with my other study aids will help you to succeed on your first try!

For the most part, no, the process is the same. The only thing I might warn you of is that IBLCE used to allow you to certify using your professional name, which may or may not have been your legal name. That’s no longer an option. So just make sure that the name on your application matches all of legal paperwork. If it doesn’t, email IBLCE, and they will send you some paperwork to change your name. Just get it all straightened out. (And you are not too late to fix it, even if you submitted your application.)
